BEAR MOUNTAIN SUPPRESSION MODULE

History

Bear Mountain was established in the fall of 2005 as a hazardous fuels reduction crew based in Custer State Park. The crew was named after the local Bear Mountain lookout tower and their original crew boss created the logo, which has been utilized ever since. In the years following, the crew developed into a full wildland fire suppression handcrew and then a type 2IA handcrew and moved their base to Rapid City, SD to be more centrally located. Since 2024 Bear Mountain continues its journey, developing members and overhead to be qualified as a fully functional wildland fire suppression module.

Duties

The Bear Mountain Suppression Module is a 10-person wildland fire suppression module, specializing in drone operations, prescribed fire, wildland fire suppression, fuels reduction projects, all-hazard incidents, and other specialized operations. The crew is located in the central Black Hills, sharing a duty station with the Black Hat Handcrew.
